First vocal festival Estvocal took place in spring 2000 in Tartu. The
idea came from the main manager - local popular ensemble Noorkuu.
The main purpose of Estvocal has been to find and help young solo singers,
vocal groups and to promote Estonian composers’ music as
well. There is a tradition that the participants of Estvocal should sing one
song from an Estonian composer’s creation but the second one is upon their
own choice. According to general rules of a vocal contest only natural
instruments(piano etc) are allowed to accompany.With these restrictions we
enable a singer better to expose the real talent. For the first time, Estvocal
2004 was an international event - so it was also opened for abroad
competitors.
